The Cleveland Indians and Russell Branyan reached a one-year deal with a mutual option for the 2011 season.

Branyan spent 2009 with the Seattle Mariners where he hit 31 home runs but finished the season early due to back issues.

The Indians will use Branyan as a designated hitter and first baseman due to his past injury issues.

Branyan will be an option in deeper leagues and AL-only leagues but his AVG will hurt your overall numbers. He's powerful when he makes contact but don't expect him to play a full season.
