Don't Give Up on James McDonald Just Yet

James McDonald's first start for the Los Angeles Dodgers didn't go well...not at all. The Arizona Diamondbacks tagged him with five earned runs in 2.1 innings.

McDonald looked good in the first two innings, retiring the side both times. He struck out two while inducing four ground ball outs compared to one fly ball out through the first two innings.

After giving up a leadoff home run to Chris B. Young in the third, McDonald appeared to lose command of his curveball. He walked three batters and hit another before giving up a single to Conor Jackson.

McDonald looked like a shaky rookie with men on base but Torre should give McDonald another start based on his first two innings. The fastball was there and complemented by a good change while the curveball fell apart at the end.

If you own McDonald in a league, it might be smart to drop him and watch his next performance closely. He has the pedigree to be a decent big-league pitcher so don't give up on him yet.
