Corpas was the closer for the Rockies during their magical 2007 World Series run but is he ready to take over on Blake Street?
Having been slated as a future closer since 2005, Corpas has developed pitches to end games but he has been shaky at times. His 2007 ERA of 2.08 was impressive but he didn't dominate hitters like you expect from a closer.
Corpas started 2008 as the Rockies' closer but relinquished the role to Fuentes after April and May ERA's of over six. Corpas finished out the year with decent numbers but nothing compared to 2007.
The Rockies have to rely on Corpas until they can afford, or develop, a better option. joined the Rockies in the trade but the Rockies aren't looking for him to close.
Corpas will be the go-to guy on opening day but look for him to get competition from Street...at least until Street is traded.
