Prospect Joey Votto and veteran Scott Hatteberg have battled throughout spring training for the opening-day first base job in Cincinnati.
Joey Votto is a highly touted prospect who hit well in his brief stint in the majors last season. He has managed only a .193 AVG this spring while Hatteberg is hitting .360.
Judging by Hatteberg's experience and hot spring he looks to be the favorite coming out of spring training.
Votto would likely start in AAA, and with a hot bat could get called back up to the majors by May. He'll turn 25 in August so the Reds are in no rush to keep him in the majors.
